Description

This security bulletin contains information about 1 security vulnerability.

1) Use of Uninitialized Variable (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-23282)

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization of variables in the SMB2 client implementation when handling failed SMB2 open or close operations. A local user can trigger a use of uninitialized memory to cause a denial of service.

The issue occurs when SMB2_open_init() or SMB2_close_init() fails during operations such as reconnect, leaving iovs in the request structure uninitialized, which can lead to a kernel oops when freed or accessed.
