Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: N/A)
CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear
The vulnerability allows a local user to disclose low-sensitivity disk-topology and object-manager path information.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient input validation and path scoping in selected metadata IOCTL handlers in veracrypt.sys when processing caller-supplied object-manager or device paths through \\.\VeraCrypt. A local user can send crafted IOCTL requests with broader-than-required paths to disclose low-sensitivity disk-topology and object-manager path information.
The issue is limited to metadata returned by selected IOCTL handlers, including symbolic-link targets, partition size and offset information, disk geometry metadata, GPT/MBR status, and limited object-manager path information.
