CWE-ID: CWE-833 - Deadlock
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to a recursive locking deadlock in audit_dupe_exe() in the Linux kernel audit subsystem when handling file move events for executable audit rules. A local user can move a file that matches an existing executable audit rule to cause a denial of service.
Exploitation requires an existing executable audit rule that matches the file being moved.
