CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to corrupt kernel memory.
The vulnerability exists due to a shift-out-of-bounds error in max3421_hub_control() when handling a USBDEVFS_CONTROL ioctl for the root hub with a crafted wValue parameter. A local user can send a specially crafted ioctl request to corrupt kernel memory.
Exploitation requires access to the root hub device via /dev/bus/usb/.../001.
