1) Improper resource shutdown or release (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72229)

CWE-ID: CWE-404 - Improper Resource Shutdown or Release

CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a memory leak.

The vulnerability exists due to improper resource shutdown in batman-adv mesh interface cleanup when netdev registration is vetoed after creating the untagged VLAN object. A local user can trigger mesh interface registration failure to cause a memory leak.

The issue occurs because the untagged VLAN object is created during the NETDEV_REGISTER notifier path, and .dellink is not called when registration is aborted.
