Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Improper resource shutdown or release (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72214)
CWE-ID: CWE-404 - Improper Resource Shutdown or Release
CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper resource shutdown or release in cpcap_battery_detect_battery_type() in the cpcap-battery driver when handling battery property reads. A local user can trigger repeated battery property reads to cause a denial of service.
The issue is caused by a missing nvmem_device_put() call on the success and read-failure paths, which can create a permanent reference leak and prevent the nvmem device from being freed.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
