1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72197)

CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write

CVSSv4: 5.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:P/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows an attacker with physical access to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds write in do_action() in fs/ntfs3/fslog.c when processing a crafted NTFS image during mount. An attacker with physical access can provide a specially crafted NTFS image to cause a denial of service.

The issue is triggered in the DeleteIndexEntryAllocation case when an on-disk INDEX_BUFFER entry contains a malformed size value, causing memmove() to use an invalid length. User interaction is required to mount the crafted filesystem image.
