The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a null pointer dereference in ocfs2_assure_trans_credits() when completing a direct write over unwritten extents after a journal abort. A local user can trigger a direct write operation and cause the kernel to panic to cause a denial of service.

Exploitation requires an ocfs2 direct I/O write path where the journal aborts during I/O completion, such as after an I/O error.
