1) Operation on a Resource after Expiration or Release (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72142)

CWE-ID: CWE-672 - Operation on a Resource after Expiration or Release

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper state management in the i2c_imx_atomic_read function when processing SMBus block-read operations with a byte count of 0 or a count above I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX. A local user can trigger a crafted SMBus block read to cause a denial of service.

The issue can leave the i2c bus stuck with SDA held until a power cycle for the affected controller.
