Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72118)
CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')
CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause incorrect procfs statistics output.
The vulnerability exists due to a race condition in bcm_rx_handler() and related CAN BCM statistics handling in net/can/bcm.c when processing concurrent CAN frame reception on different CPUs for the same rx operation. A local attacker can trigger concurrent CAN frame processing to cause incorrect procfs statistics output.
For rx operations subscribed on all interfaces, concurrent handling on different CPUs can cause frames_filtered to become larger than frames_abs, leading to a bogus or even negative reduction percentage in procfs.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
