1) Improper Validation of Unsafe Equivalence in Input (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-77176)
CWE-ID: CWE-1289 - Improper Validation of Unsafe Equivalence in Input
CVSSv4: 8.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote user to mount attacker-chosen guest paths or host-provided content at specific in-guest locations, which could disclose sensitive information or compromise data integrity.
The vulnerability exists due to improper validation of unsafe equivalence in genpolicy-generated mount policy handling when processing CreateContainer requests. A remote user can craft a specially crafted CreateContainer request to mount attacker-chosen guest paths or host-provided content at specific in-guest locations, which could disclose sensitive information or compromise data integrity.
This issue only affects configurations that use genpolicy to protect the guest from the host, such as Confidential Containers; Kata sandboxing is not affected.
