1) Improper Check or Handling of Exceptional Conditions (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-74600)

CWE-ID: CWE-703 - Improper Check or Handling of Exceptional Conditions

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper handling of special zero mappings in page_table_check in mm/page_table_check.c when processing user page-table mappings. A local user can populate enough zero mappings to overflow file_map_count and trigger the existing BUG_ON() to cause a denial of service.

The issue affects both the PTE path with the shared zero page and the PMD path with huge zero mappings.
