Description

This security bulletin contains information about 5 vulnerabilities.

1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: N/A)

CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a heap-based out-of-bounds write in msInterpolationDataset() in src/interpolation.c when processing WMS GetMap requests with an output grid smaller than the sample count. A remote attacker can send a crafted WMS GetMap request with small WIDTH and HEIGHT values to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerable layer uses CONNECTIONTYPE IDW or CONNECTIONTYPE KERNELDENSITY.

2) Uncontrolled Recursion (CVE-ID: N/A)

CWE-ID: CWE-674 - Uncontrolled Recursion

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled recursion in the WMS GetMap FILTER processing path when handling a crafted WMS GetMap request containing a logical filter with many sibling clauses. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted WMS GetMap request to cause a denial of service.

The crash occurs before map image rendering and does not depend on dataset contents.

3) Uncontrolled Memory Allocation (CVE-ID: N/A)

CWE-ID: CWE-789 - Uncontrolled Memory Allocation

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of image dimensions in msWMSLoadGetMapParams() when handling WMS GetMap requests that request in-image exceptions and trigger an early error. A remote attacker can submit a WMS GetMap request with oversized WIDTH and HEIGHT values to cause a denial of service.

A valid layer name and knowledge of the target mapfile are not required.

4) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: N/A)

CWE-ID: CWE-476 - NULL Pointer Dereference

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a null pointer dereference in msWriteErrorImage() when rendering an in-image WMS exception after oversized image allocation fails. A remote attacker can submit a WMS GetMap request with oversized WIDTH and HEIGHT values that triggers an in-image exception to cause a denial of service.

5) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: N/A)

CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write

CVSSv4: 8.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a heap-based out-of-bounds write in FlatGeobuf PackedRTree::streamSearch when processing a crafted FlatGeobuf file. A remote attacker can provide a crafted FlatGeobuf file with an unchecked nodeItem.offset value to cause a denial of service.

The issue is reachable during R-Tree traversal when the query bounding box overlaps but is not contained within the layer's declared extent.
