The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to inefficient algorithmic complexity in the smartquotes rule when processing specially crafted Markdown with unmatched closing quotes. A remote attacker can submit crafted Markdown containing many opening quotes followed by unmatched closing quotes to cause a denial of service.

Only instances with the typographer option enabled are vulnerable.
