The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper configuration in ARM CPU timer task-work configuration when CPU timers expire in hard interrupt context on PREEMPT_RT systems. A local user can configure a CPU resource limit and execute a busy loop to cause a denial of service.
CPU timers can also be triggered through ITIMER_PROF, ITIMER_VIRTUAL, and POSIX timers created with timer_create().
