The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper error handling in ksmbd server initialization when procfs setup fails. A local user can start the ksmbd server after a procfs or per-cpu counter allocation failure to cause a denial of service.
The NULL per-CPU counters pointer is reached on SMP systems.
