Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Improper Certificate Validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-100701)

CWE-ID: CWE-295 - Improper Certificate Validation

CVSSv4: 6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote user to disclose SMTP credentials.

The vulnerability exists due to improper certificate validation in the process-global DNS cache and TLS connection option resolution when processing direct SMTPS connections that share a non-IP host while using different TLS server names. A remote user can prime the DNS cache with an attacker-controlled TLS server name to disclose SMTP credentials.

The default DNS cache lifetime is five minutes.

2) Uncontrolled Recursion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-100702)

CWE-ID: CWE-674 - Uncontrolled Recursion

CVSSv4: 8.2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled recursion in Nodemailer's recipient address parsing when processing deeply nested recipient arrays. A remote attacker can submit deeply nested recipient arrays to cause a denial of service.

Process termination requires the synchronous exception to be unhandled by the integrating application.
