Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Improper Handling of Length Parameter Inconsistency (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98171)
CWE-ID: CWE-130 - Improper Handling of Length Parameter Inconsistency
CVSSv4: 0 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause command offsets to reference stale ciphertext residue.
The vulnerability exists due to incorrect plaintext length tracking in the SMB client's receive_encrypted_standard() function when validating command offsets in compound encrypted frames. A remote attacker can supply a frame with a NextCommand offset beyond the decrypted plaintext size but within the pre-decryption length to cause command offsets to reference stale ciphertext residue.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
