Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Improper Validation of Specified Index, Position, or Offset in Input (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98171)
CWE-ID: CWE-1285 - Improper Validation of Specified Index, Position, or Offset in Input
CVSSv4: 0 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause acceptance of command offsets below the minimum header size.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient command offset validation in the SMB client's receive_encrypted_standard() function when handling compound encrypted frames. A remote attacker can supply a frame with a nonzero NextCommand value smaller than MID_HEADER_SIZE(server) to cause acceptance of command offsets below the minimum header size.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
