Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-49461)

CWE-ID: CWE-400 - Resource exhaustion

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to trigger excessive memory consumption, potentially causing a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to excessive memory consumption in pypdf's text extraction functionality when processing form XObjects. A remote attacker can supply a PDF containing form XObjects to trigger high memory usage during text extraction, potentially exhausting available memory.

2) Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-49460)

CWE-ID: CWE-407 - Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause excessive resource consumption and potentially a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to inefficient decoding in the pypdf FlateDecode PNG predictor processing component when decoding PDF streams that use PNG predictors. A remote attacker can supply specially crafted PDF data to trigger excessive processing and potentially cause a denial of service.
