1) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98536)

CWE-ID: CWE-400 - Resource exhaustion

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service through prolonged task stalls and a possible kernel panic.

The vulnerability exists due to failure to report Tasks-RCU quiescent states in cleanup_offline_cgwbs_workfn() when draining offline cgroup writeback domains on kernels where cond_resched() is disabled by the preemption configuration. A local user can cause prolonged draining of a writeback domain with many attached inodes to delay concurrent BPF or ftrace detach operations, blocking tasks and potentially triggering a kernel panic.
