1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98545)

CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write

CVSSv4: 5.2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:P/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows an attacker with physical access to system to corrupt kernel memory and potentially cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds reads and writes in ata_scsi_set_passthru_sense_fields() in the Linux kernel's libata-scsi component when processing a device's REQUEST SENSE reply after a failed ATA PASS-THROUGH command to an ATAPI device. An attacker with physical access to system can supply a crafted reply through a controlled ATAPI device, manipulating the additional length byte or descriptor layout to trigger accesses beyond the 96-byte sense buffer and potentially crash the kernel.
