Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Improper initialization (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98546)
CWE-ID: CWE-665 - Improper Initialization
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service by crashing the host.
The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization of the HDFGWTR2_EL2 trap-control register in the arm64 __init_el2_fgt2() function when configuring performance-monitoring register traps. A local user can write to PMZR_EL0 from EL0 to trigger an unhandled EL2 trap and a BUG() in the nVHE hypervisor, bringing down the host.
The described exploitation path requires kernel.perf_user_access=1 and a task with a user-read performance event, for which the PMU driver sets PMUSERENR_EL0.UEN.
Remediation
