CWE-ID: CWE-772 - Missing Release of Resource after Effective Lifetime

CVSSv4: 4.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to potentially cause a denial of service through kernel resource exhaustion.

The vulnerability exists due to missing release of a pipe file reference in the Linux kernel autofs subsystem when mount setup fails or is abandoned before AUTOFS_SBI_CATATONIC is cleared. A local privileged user can trigger repeated unsuccessful mount setup operations to accumulate leaked file references and potentially exhaust kernel resources. During cleanup, autofs_kill_sb() calls autofs_catatonic_mode(), which returns early because the flag remains set, leaving the sbi->pipe reference unreleased.
