1) Missing Release of Resource after Effective Lifetime (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98558)

CWE-ID: CWE-772 - Missing Release of Resource after Effective Lifetime

CVSSv4: 5.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service by indefinitely stalling network device or driver teardown.

The vulnerability exists due to failure to release deferred socket buffers in the Linux kernel networking subsystem when a CPU goes offline with pending buffers in net_hotdata.skb_defer_nodes. A local user can exploit this condition when stranded buffers hold page_pool fragments to cause page_pool_destroy() to wait indefinitely during network device or driver teardown while the CPU remains offline.
