Description

This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.

1) Excessive Iteration (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-115580)

CWE-ID: CWE-834 - Excessive Iteration

CVSSv4: 4.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service through prolonged PDF processing.

The vulnerability exists due to excessive iteration in the pypdf cross-reference (xref) table parser when processing a PDF with large or incorrect upper limits in its xref table. A remote attacker can trick a user into opening a crafted PDF to cause excessively long processing times.

2) Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-115585)

CWE-ID: CWE-407 - Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity

CVSSv4: 6.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service through excessive PDF processing times.

The vulnerability exists due to inefficient algorithmic complexity in pypdf's cross-reference stream processing when parsing PDFs containing repeated malformed cross-reference entries. A remote attacker can craft a PDF that triggers repeated loading of the entire stream despite an existing cache to prolong processing and reduce application availability.

3) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-115572)

CWE-ID: CWE-400 - Resource exhaustion

CVSSv4: 6.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service through excessive PDF processing time.

The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled resource consumption in pypdf's indirect object handling when processing repeated references to the same nonexistent object. A remote attacker can craft a PDF containing these references to cause prolonged processing when the affected portions of the file are loaded.
