Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98697)
CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')
CVSSv4: 1.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to leak kernel memory, potentially causing a denial of service through resource exhaustion.
The vulnerability exists due to a race condition in the Linux kernel USB serial subsystem when driver deregistration overlaps with writes to the new_id attribute. A local privileged user can write to the attribute during deregistration to add a dynamic ID that escapes cleanup, leaking its allocated memory.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
