Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98703)
CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to corrupt kernel memory and potentially cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel mac80211 minstrel_ht rate-control component when processing an invalid fixed rate index supplied through the fixed_rate_idx debugfs file. A local privileged user can write a value such as 65535 to select group 4095 and rate index 15, causing minstrel_ht_set_rate() to access and update rate statistics outside the valid arrays and corrupt adjacent kernel memory.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
