Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98836)
CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write
CVSSv4: 5.2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:P/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows an attacker with physical access to system to corrupt kernel memory, potentially causing a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel ALSA Line6 driver's submit_audio_out_urb() function when preparing playback packets whose calculated sizes exceed the allocated output buffer capacity. An attacker with physical access to system can connect a specially crafted USB device declaring a large input endpoint packet size and a small output endpoint packet size to cause playback data copies or idle-stream memory initialization to write beyond the allocated buffer and corrupt kernel memory.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
