Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98495)
CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read
CVSSv4: 5.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to trigger an out-of-bounds read of kernel stack memory, potentially causing a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to missing NUL termination of the arp_dev field in the Linux kernel ARP ioctl handler when looking up a user-supplied interface name. A local user can submit a struct arpreq containing IFNAMSIZ bytes without a NUL terminator in arp_dev to cause strcmp() to read beyond the stack object during lookup through dev_get_by_name_rcu() or __dev_get_by_name() when a matching alternative interface name exists.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
