Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 vulnerability.
1) Improper update of reference count (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98498)
CWE-ID: CWE-911 - Improper Update of Reference Count
CVSSv4: 2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause resource retention that may lead to a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to a missing reference count decrement in mlx5_tc_ct_shared_counter_get() in the Linux kernel mlx5 driver when a reverse entry is found but its counter is already being released. A local user can trigger shared counter lookups under this condition to leave reverse entries permanently referenced, potentially exhausting resources and causing a denial of service.
Remediation
Install update from vendor's website.
