Description
This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.
1) Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-80179)
CWE-ID: CWE-770 - Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling
CVSSv4: 6.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled memory allocation in JWE.deserialize() compact JWE parsing fallback when parsing attacker-controlled malformed non-JSON token text with many period delimiters. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted JWE string to cause a denial of service.
Exploitation requires the application to pass untrusted JWE input to the deserializer before authentication succeeds.
2) Improper Verification of Cryptographic Signature (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-84185)
CWE-ID: CWE-347 - Improper Verification of Cryptographic Signature
CVSSv4: 5.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote user to perform unauthorized actions.
The vulnerability exists due to improper verification of cryptographic signature in JWKSet verification in jwcrypto/jws.py when verifying a General JSON Serialization JWS with a supplied JWKSet. A remote privileged user can provide a crafted JWS signed with one trusted key while declaring a different kid header to perform unauthorized actions.
Exploitation requires that the attacker possess a valid signing key in the application's trusted JWKSet and that the consuming application rely on kid for an authorization decision.
3) Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-92091)
CWE-ID: CWE-407 - Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity
CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to inefficient algorithmic complexity in the JWK.import_key key_ops duplicate check when processing attacker-supplied JWK key_ops arrays. A remote attacker can submit a JWK containing many distinct key_ops values to cause a denial of service.
Only applications that pass attacker-controlled JWKs or JWK Sets to a public import API are affected.
