1) Reachable assertion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98872)

CWE-ID: CWE-617 - Reachable Assertion

CVSSv4: 6.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to cause a denial of service by crashing the Linux kernel.

The vulnerability exists due to a reachable assertion in the freevxfs vxfs_bmap_typed() function when processing an on-disk typed extent with an unsupported type value. A local privileged user can trigger processing of such an extent through ioctl(FIBMAP) on a regular file to invoke BUG() and crash the kernel.
