Description

This security bulletin contains information about 7 vulnerabilities.

1) Reachable assertion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-4046)

CWE-ID: CWE-617 - Reachable Assertion

CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a reachable assertion in the iconv function when processing specially crafted input using the IBM1390 or IBM1399 character sets. A remote attacker can supply malicious input remotely to cause a denial of service.

2) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-4437)

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

CVSSv4: 6.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:L]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a spoofing attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition when calling gethostbyaddr or gethostbyaddr_r with a configured nsswitch.conf that specifies the library's DNS backend in the GNU C Library version. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted response from the configured DNS server and perform a spoofing attack.

3) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-4438)

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

CVSSv4: 2.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:L/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a spoofing attack.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation when calling gethostbyaddr or gethostbyaddr_r with a configured nsswitch.conf that specifies the library's DNS backend in the GNU C library. A remote attacker can force the library to violate the DNS specification and retrieve an invalid DNS hostname to the caller, leading to a potential spoofing attack.

4) Improper error handling (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-39797)

CWE-ID: CWE-388 - Error Handling

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to improper error handling within the xfrm_state_lookup_byspi() and xfrm_alloc_spi() functions in net/xfrm/xfrm_state.c. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

5) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-23002)

CWE-ID: CWE-476 - NULL Pointer Dereference

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to NULL pointer dereference within the freader_get_folio() and freader_fetch() functions in lib/buildid.c. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

6) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-53281)

CWE-ID: CWE-416 - Use After Free

CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference and use-after-free in the Intel VT-d IOMMU PASID teardown logic when detaching a domain that was not attached to the IOMMU or when a PASID entry is not found. A local user can trigger teardown operations on an invalid or missing PASID association to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code.

The issue can also corrupt reference counts, which may prematurely drop a shared domain reference to zero for remaining active devices.

7) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-64017)

CWE-ID: CWE-416 - Use After Free

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free in blk-mq cached request handling in block/blk-mq.c when submitting a bio while a cached request is peeked and the task sleeps before it is removed from the plug list. A local user can trigger request handling that hits this race condition to cause a denial of service.

The issue occurs when a plug flush frees cached requests before the cached request is popped for use.
