Description
This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.
1) Argument injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-112900)
CWE-ID: CWE-88 - Argument Injection or Modification
CVSSv4: 8.4 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to inject Ghostscript command-line arguments and potentially execute arbitrary operating system commands.
The vulnerability exists due to improper neutralization of filename-derived command-line arguments in Pillow's PIL.EpsImagePlugin.Ghostscript() function when rendering EPS images with attacker-controlled filenames. A remote attacker can supply a filename beginning with - or -- to inject an option, or use a filename such as @arg to load additional arguments from a referenced file and execute arbitrary operating system commands if that file is also attacker-controlled.
The issue is reproducible with Pillow's default Ghostscript invocation, including when -dSAFER is enabled.
2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-112403)
CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
CVSSv4: 6.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to corrupt heap memory and cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to a heap-based buffer overflow in Pillow's ImagingJpegDecode() when decoding a lossless SOF3 JPEG after draft() requests scaled output. A remote attacker can supply a specially crafted image to an application that requests scaling through draft() or thumbnail() to cause full-width scanlines to overwrite a heap buffer allocated for scaled-width rows, corrupting memory and potentially crashing the application.
Exploitation requires the linked JPEG library to support lossless decoding.
3) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-112393)
CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
CVSSv4: 9.2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service and potentially execute arbitrary code.
The vulnerability exists due to a heap-based buffer overflow in Pillow's _tiffWriteProc function in src/libImaging/TiffDecode.c when saving a TIFF image through libtiff to a destination without a usable file descriptor, such as io.BytesIO. A remote attacker can supply a crafted single-band TIFF with an attacker-controlled out-of-line tag value to a service that opens and re-saves the image to trigger an undersized allocation and overwrite adjacent heap memory, causing a process crash or potentially executing arbitrary code.
The reported code-execution chain additionally requires addresses disclosed by a separate vulnerability.
4) Improper handling of highly compressed data (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-112892)
CWE-ID: CWE-409 - Improper Handling of Highly Compressed Data (Data Amplification)
CVSSv4: 6.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service through memory exhaustion.
The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled expansion of run-length encoded data in Pillow's MSP RLE decoder when loading image pixels. A remote attacker can supply a small crafted MSP image that expands into an unbounded io.BytesIO buffer without a limit tied to the declared image size to exhaust application memory and cause a denial of service.
