Description
This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.
1) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-119203)
CWE-ID: CWE-835 - Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop')
CVSSv4: 6.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by triggering an infinite loop.
The vulnerability exists due to an unreachable loop exit condition in the pypdf standard cross-reference table parser when reaching the end of a file during a trailer search. A remote attacker can trick a victim into opening a crafted, incomplete PDF file without a trailer to cause the parser to loop indefinitely.
2) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-119204)
CWE-ID: CWE-400 - Resource exhaustion
CVSSv4: 4.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause excessive memory consumption and potentially a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled resource consumption in the pypdf page tree parser when parsing a PDF with many shared resources. A remote attacker can supply a specially crafted PDF to trigger large memory usage and potentially disrupt the application processing the document.
3) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-119205)
CWE-ID: CWE-835 - Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop')
CVSSv4: 6.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to an unreachable loop exit condition in pypdf's DictionaryObject cloning functionality when processing a specially crafted PDF. A remote attacker can supply a crafted PDF that triggers an infinite loop when a DictionaryObject is cloned or duplicated to cause a denial of service.
