Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Untrusted Pointer Dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-113780)

CWE-ID: CWE-822 - Untrusted Pointer Dereference

CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code within the TEE, escalate privileges across the REE/TEE isolation boundary, and cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to dereferencing an untrusted stack pointer in the esp_tee trap entry handlers in esp_tee_vectors_plic.S and esp_tee_vectors_clic.S when saving the incoming register context before switching to the trusted TEE stack. A remote attacker can use code running in the REE to supply a stack pointer targeting TEE-exclusive memory and cause attacker-influenced register data to be written there, potentially enabling arbitrary code execution when overwritten TEE control-flow data is subsequently used.

The issue affects Espressif SoCs with ESP-TEE support: ESP32-C5, ESP32-C6, ESP32-C61, and ESP32-H2.

2) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-113783)

CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow

CVSSv4: 8.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to corrupt stack memory, alter program logic, and cause a denial of service, potentially redirecting control flow.

The vulnerability exists due to a stack-based buffer overflow in the lwIP DNS resolver's dns_lookup() function in dns.c when copying multiple cached IP addresses into a single-element ip_addr_t output buffer without bounds checking. A remote attacker can influence DNS responses to supply multiple attacker-controlled address records, causing subsequent cached lookups through dns_gethostbyname() or dns_gethostbyname_addrtype() to overwrite adjacent stack memory and disrupt or alter program execution.
