CVE-ID: CVE-2026-43188
CWE-ID: CWE-703
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available
Vendor: Linux Foundation
Affected software:
Linux kernel

Detailed vulnerability description

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper error handling in ceph_process_folio_batch() when processing encrypted folios during writeback with fscrypt enabled. A local user can trigger bounce buffer allocation failures so that the error is propagated to the main writeback loop to cause a denial of service.

The issue is exposed when fscrypt is enabled, and the failure can lead to a kernel oops in the worker through a BUG_ON() condition on a subsequent iteration.
