Detailed vulnerability description

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a race condition in the deferred split queue handling during folio migration when processing concurrent rmap-removal and migration operations. A local user can trigger concurrent memory management activity to cause a denial of service.

The issue can trip a kernel WARN and can also cause an underused fully mapped folio to be silently lost from the split queue.
