Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to inefficient regular expression processing with quadratic time complexity in the SRT/WebVTT subtitle parser (subparse) when parsing crafted subtitle files with long lines. A remote attacker can provide a specially crafted subtitle file to cause a denial of service.

This can result in excessive CPU usage and application unresponsiveness during subtitle parsing.
