Double free in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-68416
Published: August 12, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to a double free in add_mtd_device() error handling for MTD partitions when handling device registration or nvmem provider initialization failures. A local user can trigger a failure in these error paths to cause a denial of service.
The issue also causes a WARN_ON condition because the partition node remains linked in the parent's partitions list when the release callback is invoked.
