Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference in bpf_task_from_vpid() when processing network packets in cgroup_skb programs while the current task is exiting. A remote attacker can send network traffic that triggers the vulnerable BPF helper path to cause a denial of service.

The issue occurs in softirq context if execution interrupts a task after its thread_pid has been cleared during process exit.
