NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-74311
Published: August 15, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference in virtio rtc virtqueue restore handling when reinitializing virtqueues during device restore. A local user can trigger device restore and cause the guest kernel to crash.
The issue can occur if virtqueue reinitialization fails on virtio-pci, including cases where an earlier queue setup attempt fails before a later one would otherwise succeed.
