Division by zero in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72414
Published: August 15, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to division by zero in future_base_time() in the sja1105 PTP perout handling code when processing a user-provided period value that becomes zero after conversion to SJA1105 clock ticks. A local user can provide a very small period value to trigger a kernel crash and cause a denial of service.
