Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72396
Published: August 15, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to disclose sensitive information.
The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds read in adm1275_probe() when comparing a device-provided model string returned by i2c_smbus_read_block_data(). A local user can provide a shortened crafted device string to cause the kernel to read uninitialized stack memory and disclose sensitive information.
Exploitation requires access to a device handled by the adm1275 hwmon driver.
