Improper control of a resource through its lifetime in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72325
Published: August 16, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper hardware feature state management in the amd perf events handling in arch/x86/events/amd/core.c when reloading virtualization state on PerfMonV2-capable processors. A local user can toggle SVM on a CPU with active LBR events to cause a denial of service.
The issue occurs on processors that have LBR but not BRS, where writing the deprecated BRS enable bit triggers a #GP fault.
