CWE-ID: CWE-284
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to disable the PF promiscuous and all-multicast receive rules.

The vulnerability exists due to improper access control in the nix_set_rx_mode mailbox handler when processing a VF interface request with promiscuous and all_multi flags set to false. A local user can bring up or tear down a VF interface to disable the PF promiscuous and all-multicast receive rules.

The issue occurs because the rule enable and disable APIs operate on the PF even when the mailbox request is issued through a VF interface.
