CVSS v4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72302
CWE-ID: CWE-190
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause an out-of-bounds access.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow in sof_ipc3_control_update() in sound/soc/sof/ipc3-control.c when processing firmware-provided control data. A local user can provide a crafted num_elems value to trigger size miscalculation and cause an out-of-bounds access.

The issue occurs on 32-bit platforms where the size calculation can wrap to a smaller value, allowing a mismatched size check to pass before snd_sof_update_control is reached.
