Improper resource shutdown or release in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72258
Published: August 16, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper resource shutdown or release in the MT8183 AFE probe in sound/soc/mediatek/mt8183/mt8183-afe-pcm.c when handling device probe failures or driver removal. A local user can trigger device initialization and cleanup conditions to cause a denial of service.
The issue arises when reserved memory is assigned through of_reserved_mem_device_init() and the assignment is not released consistently on cleanup.
