Information disclosure in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72237
Published: August 16, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to disclose kernel memory addresses.
The vulnerability exists due to improper access control in the amd_brs_match_plm() branch privilege-level filtering in the AMD BRS perf event handling code when processing user-only branch stack sampling requests. A local user can invoke perf branch sampling with PERF_SAMPLE_BRANCH_USER to disclose kernel memory addresses.
The issue affects AMD processors supporting X86_FEATURE_BRS and occurs for branch records that transition from the kernel to user space.
